Kids and their parents hoping to go to the Children’s Discovery Center Sunday found out it was closed.
HECO was doing some work in the area that took longer than expected and didn’t turn the power back on until almost 10:30 a.m.
By the time they turned the power back on, the Discovery Center already told its employees to take the day off.
“HECO has been very responsive, they let us know weeks in advance that they were gonna be working on the power in our area. And so we shut down all of the equipment last night at 8 o’clock. And I think the expectation was that we’d be up and running at 5 a.m. and if all things went perfectly we would’ve been,” Children’s Discovery Center Loretta Yajima said.
“It’s kind of a bummer, we’ll have to find alternative plans today,” mother from Nuuanu Jodi Davis said.
“This would’ve been his first time here. I keep hearing from his age group that they really enjoy it, but I guess we’ll find out another time,” mother from Kailua Lisa Foster said.
About six businesses in Kakaako were affected by the outage.
The Children’s Discovery Center will reopen to the public on Tuesday.
