For the last eight years, Niu Valley residents have been trying to get a playground built in their community.
The city said if you pay for it, we will do the rest.
After eight years, the Niu Valley Community Association raised more than $77,000.
It is donating the money to the city to build it.
The community won $15,000 in a social media contest, and the rest came from donations.
“We see this as not only a magnet just for the children but we have also designed some structures in there to accommodate older folks, and some seating areas. We see this as becoming the heart of the community,” said Niu Valley Community Association vice president Peter Katsikas.
The city has to approve the donation.
The association hopes the playground will be built by the end of the year.
