The Fourth of July held an extra special meaning this year.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, that’s when a monk seal pup was born.

Officials say the mother, known as Irma, gave birth near Kaiwi in East Oahu.

NOAA says this is the second pup born in the same location for the mother.

Irma is in her late teens to early 20s and frequents Waikiki and southeast Oahu beaches.

At this time, it is unknown if the pup is a male or female.
