Kaneohe man’s death after arrest ruled a homicide

The death of a Kaneohe man who died after a scuffle with Honolulu police has been classified as a homicide by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office, Stephan Dinnan died of asphyxia due to compression during a restraint.

In June, Dinnan was being arrested for an auto theft case when police say Dinnan resisted and fought being detained.

Shortly after, he became unresponsive and died the next day.

Dinnan’s family claims police used excessive force.

They are pursuing legal action.
