Kauai’s Yates pitches scoreless inning in Triple-A All-Star Game

Signed as an un-drafted free agent in 2009, Kauai native Kirby Yates has powered through the Tampa Bay farm syste,, creating a major buzz in 2013 as the closer for Triple-A Durham.

Wednesday night in Reno, Yates took his spot among the level’s best players as a member of the International League in the Triple-A All-Star game.
The Kauai High School graduate lived up to the hype, hitting 95 MPH on the radar gun, going three up and three down with one strikeout in the IL’s 4-3 win over the Pacific Coast League.

In 2013 Yates has 70 strikeouts in just 43.2 innings with 10 saves and a 1.03 Earned Run Average.

Dating back to last season, the little brother of former Met’s, A’s Braves, and Pirates Pitcher Tyler Yates, has 164 strikeouts with a 2.02 ERA in 111 innings.
