A 33-year-old man is dead after being run over by a vehicle in Pacific Palisades early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened shortly after 12:45 a.m. on Auhuhu Street near Aumakua Street.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Andrew Mercado of Pearl City.
According to the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, Mercado was apparently lying on the road before he was struck by a vehicle.
Police say the driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man with a Pearl City address, was not injured.
Mercado was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.
According to police, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver of the vehicle. Police say alcohol is a possible factor for Mercado.
This the 37th traffic fatality for 2013 compared to 32 at the same time last year.
The case remains under investigation.
