The Ala Moana Center removed some of the monkey pod and palm trees on the mall property along Piikoi Street.

Wood from the monkey pods will be donated to make bowls and poi boards.

Some of the palms will be relocated to the Atkinson Drive side of the mall.

The mall says it consulted with the Outdoor Circle before Thursday’s work.

A $543 million renovation is planned for the old Sears location and surrounding parking structure.

It’s scheduled for completion in late 2015.
