L & L owner celebrates anniversary with free meals

The president and CEO of L & L Hawaiian Barbecue is giving back to the community.

Eddie Flores celebrated his 50th anniversary of immigrating to America on Thursday by serving lunch to 50 needy families chosen by the Institute of Human Services.

In 1963, Flores arrived in the country on the S.S. President Cleveland when he was just 16 years old.

“What I really like is to see families with children having a good time and a good meal,” Flores said.

“Oh, this is a blessing. This is a blessing. We enjoyed it,” lunch recipient Pamela Perez said.

L & L also teamed up with Wal-Mart, Pepsi, and Loves Bakery to give those families gift packs filled with items including toothpaste, soap, and brushes.

Thursday’s event also coincided with IHS’ 35 year celebration of public service in Hawaii.
