Man arrested in Hilo carjacking

Big Island police are investigating a carjacking in Hilo

Police say the car was taken from a 24-year-old man in the Target parking lot at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after he was threatened with a weapon.

The suspect took his keys and drove off in the victim’s car.

The victim did not sustain any injuries.

The victim’s car was found in the Pohoiki area later that night.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man for first-degree robbery and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

He remains in police custody and has not yet been charged.

Detectives are also reviewing video surveillance footage that was recovered from Target.
