A Kapaa man who died while fishing in waters off Kauai’s south shore Friday afternoon has been identified.
Kauai police have identified the man as 59-year-old Paul Guenther of Kapaa.
Police say Guenther was fishing with friends roughly eight miles off shore.
According to witnesses, at about 3 p.m. Guenther said he was feeling faint. He collapsed a short time later.
Using the boat’s radio, friends contacted the U.S. Coast Guard for assistance.
Coast Guard personnel responded and began performing CPR on Guenther, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Guenther was taken to Nawiliwili Boat Harbor, where awaiting medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Foul play is not suspected in the cause of Guenther’s death.
