After more than six months, the mystery person in an urn that was found along the shores of Diamond Head has finally been laid to rest in waters just off Maunalua Bay.

In a story that KHON2 News first brought to you, Tammy Mori shows us how some good samaritans brought a stranger to her final resting place.

It’s been a long journey for Heather Faustin to make sure this stranger was laid to rest with dignity.

“It’s definitely been a journey. I’ve gotten so many emails of people trying to help me to find her,” remembered Faustin.

Days after she made her search efforts public, she was contacted by the woman’s power of attorney. He was able to share more about Betty Rhea Hilton Hauptman, the kind of woman she was, and even shared a picture of her during her last birthday celebration.

He said she was a travel agent and was living by herself in Marina del Rey.

According to the power of attorney, Hauptman didn’t have any family and her relatives all live in Israel.

But her last wish was to be laid to rest in Hawaiian waters. She loved Hawaii.

He had arranged for her urn to be buried here in the water but it wasn’t a biodegradable urn.

Faustin wanted to make sure her final wish was honored. But it’s not the ending Faustin was envisioning.

“In the back of my mind I thought it would be a fairy tale ending. Reuniting her with her family and overcome with joy more than the circumstances that happened,” Faustin said.

She ended up taking Hauptman in like her own family.

“Put her in the water and how beautiful it was, I could feel at peace and I’m sure she does too,” Faustin said showing aloha to a woman she had never met. “She’s not forgotten about right now and all the support everyone has showed across the country shows that people are loved.”
