Lightning strikes Kahului home

Maui firefighters were called to a home in Kahului after a report that it was struck by lightning.

The incident happened at about 6:15 p.m. Monday at a home on Kipapa Place.

During their investigation, firefighters found a 10-inch diameter hole that went through the roof and through the gable end of the back of the home.

Officials say the hole through the gable end was five inches in diameter.

No injuries were reported.

Damage to the home is estimated at $1,000.
