A Board of Water Supply (BWS) contractor will be working to connect the new 12-inch main on Ward Avenue to the existing main on Kapiolani Boulevard until 5 a.m. Thursday.
This nighttime construction work will close a portion of two Ewa-bound lanes on Kapiolani Boulevard at the Ward Avenue intersection across Jack-in-the-Box and two makai-bound lanes on Ward Avenue between South King Street and Kapiolani Boulevard.
In addition, one mauka-bound lane on Ward Avenue from Kapiolani Boulevard to the Blaisdell Arena will be contraflowed. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling through the work area.
Drivers traveling through the construction area are asked to abide by the posted traffic signs and to allow for additional travel time.
In an effort to minimize the impact on the community, the required work is being scheduled during non-peak water use times.
This construction activity is part of the ongoing Water System Improvement Project on Ward Avenue from Kinau Street to Kapiolani Boulevard.
When completed, this project will enhance water service to area residents and businesses by improving fire protection and reducing the likelihood of water main breaks.
