City crews and Honolulu police conducted a cleanup operation at Thomas Square Wednesday morning.
“This morning, we are responding to complaints that we received from the general public regarding encampment here at Thomas Square,” Department of Facility Director and Chief Engineer Ross Sasamura said. “So we’re conducting an enforcement of the ‘sidewalk-nuisance’ ordinance that some people refer to Article 7.”
A ceremony will also be held on Wednesday to mark the 170th anniversary of Thomas Square.
Among the dignitaries attending will be former U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka.
