Honolulu police were called to Hakimo Road in Waianae where a woman had just escaped from two people who kidnapped her.

They brought the 35-year-old victim back to where it all started on Helelua Road. All shook up, she sat in the back of a police car telling officers what went down.

Police say sometime before noon she was approached by the two suspects carrying a knife or sword. They forced her into their car and drove off.

News of what happened quickly spread through the neighborhood.

“A lady got kidnapped for whatever she had, her money or whatevers. That’s low class,” Helelua Road resident Kuulei Lincoln said.

“Oh, it blew my mind. I couldn’t believe it,” Helelua Road resident Gerry Rivera said.

Police say her kidnappers drove her down several streets, eventually reaching Hakimo Road. They robbed her, but she was able to break free and escape, and called 911 for help. She was not seriously injured.

“She is lucky she is here. Some people don’t even make it,” Lincoln said.

Residents were on nerve about the brazen crime in broad daylight, especially in a neighborhood with kids playing in the street.

“I’m surprised, grateful, and thank God none of our children are hurt, the kids,” Rivera said.

Police put out an all-points bulletin for the male and female suspects, and searched the Waianae area by car and HPD helicopter.

The car they were in is described as a silver Mazda four-door with tinted windows.

“Hope they find the suspects because they don’t deserve to be out here in the streets doing that kind of stuff to people especially innocent people not even bothering them,” Lincoln said.

Honolulu police are looking into whether there was a connection between the victim and her kidnappers.

No one has been arrested at this time.
