A shipping container full of donated items is heading to Micronesia.
Volunteers spent Saturday morning packing in the goods including tables, chairs, book shelves, and educational materials.
Many of these items would’ve gone to our landfills, but instead will be heading to an impoverished area of Micronesia.
“Lot of times they’re on just dirt floors,” REPAC President Gleen Wakai said. “Can you imagine the books that they do have, what little books that they have? Usually they’re just stock piled on top of tables. Today we’re gonna give them the opportunity to put them like shelves, like everyone sees in the first world.”
The UH Law School, Helemano Elementary, and Iolani School donated the items and Matson donated the container.
It should arrive in Micronesia in three weeks.
