In addition to beaches and culture, Hawaii is also known for its unique dress code.
Recognizing the potential of the fashion industry, Gov. Neil Abercrombie on Tuesday declared October Hawaii fashion month.
October will be filled with runway shows, exhibitions, and films to showcase local fashion.
“One of the goals of this administration is going to be that fashion tours become part and parcel of the travel package,” Gov. Abercrombie said.
“I hope it brings in more people that haven’t heard about us, maybe locally, or even new tourists that are arriving and haven’t heard about Mumu Heaven,” Muumuu Heaven owner Deb Mascia said.
Hawaii’s fashion industry generates more than $750 million in annual sales, and employs more than 3,600 people.
