Peace bell rings in honor of 68th anniversary of Hiroshima bombing

The 68th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing was commemorated Tuesday.

The ceremony was held at the Izumo Taishakyo Mission in Nuuanu and was concluded with the ringing of the peace bell.

On August 6, 1945, an estimated 140,000 people were killed when the U.S. dropped the world’s first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.

Japan surrendered a few days after a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.
