Next year’s race for Congress is getting crowded.

On Wednesday, state Rep. Mark Takai announced his bid for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District — Colleen Hanabusa’s current seat.

Rep. Takai pointed to his nearly 20 years in the state legislature and his record on education and the economy as qualifications.

“I intend to continue our work in diversifying our economy and focusing on the things that matter to make sure we have a robust economy supporting our working families,” Rep. Takai said.

State Sen. Will Espero and Honolulu City Councilmember Stanley Chang are also running for the seat.

Honolulu City Councilmember Ikaika Anderson is announcing his decision on whether to run on Thursday.
