The murder trial for a Kalihi man suspected of killing his adoptive mother is underway.
Charley Hernane lived with Teresita Hernane in 2011.
On May 11, Teresita’s niece made a gruesome discovery in her aunt’s bedroom.
“Two cuts on her head. Did it seem like there was blood coming from her head? Yeah, and on the sheets, and the knife on the floor,” victim’s niece Mishell Dumalan said.
A picture of the scene showed a knife on the floor near the bed where Teresita was found.
Hernane’s attorney says there isn’t enough proof that his client knowingly and intentionally killed his mom. Those are two elements that need to be proven for a murder conviction.
