An 8-month-old child who was kidnapped in Wailuku Wednesday evening was found in good health.
Maui police say the infant was located on Thursday and is in the hands of authorities at this time.
Police were initially looking for 21-year-old Riana Lee, who got into a confrontation with a 34-year-old victim at Mako Gas in Wailuku. Lee then fled the scene with the child in a gray Honda four-door sedan.
A short time later, the Honda was found abandoned at a restaurant in Wailuku.
The Maui Police Department did not release a Maile Alert (Amber Alert) in this case and issued the following statement:
“The Criminal Investigations Divisions did not make an Maile Alert (Amber Alert) due to this case not meeting the Alert guidelines. CID have spoken with the Missing Children’s Center recently, who were aware and agreed that parts of this case did not meet the threshold.
Also that the victim did not feel her child was in danger and other information provided, however it was a concern for the Police to find the child and make sure the child was fine.”
At this time, it is unknown if Lee was arrested.
