New farmers market opens in Central Oahu

Sunday was the first day the farmers market at Leeward Community College opened.

In addition to locally grown fruits and veggies, there’s also some prepared foods.

It’s open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“We’ve always wanted to do a farmers market here, just to bring in the community and again to provide the Aiea, Pearl City, Waikele, Waipahu area with the opportunity to buy fresh and buy local,” Leeward Community College Dean of career and technology education Ron Umehira said.

“We’ll probably try to build this market with more vendors and more farmers hopefully and get people,” Nalo Farms Owner and President Dean Okimoto said.

Starting next weekend, Pearlridge Center starts its new farmers market.

It’ll be held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the parking lot near Sears.
