Driver in crash that killed HPD officer pleads not guilty to manslaughter

The man accused of slamming his truck into the back of a Honolulu Police Department patrol car, killing an officer, has pleaded not guilty.

Scott Ebert, of Mililani, is charged with manslaughter.

According to police, 28-year-old officer Garret Davis stopped his patrol car in the left eastbound lane of the H-1 Freeway in Aiea to help a motorist with a blown tire in Jan. 2012.

Prosecutors said Ebert was speeding at 83 miles per hour when his pickup truck crashed into the patrol car, which burst into flames.

Ebert’s trial week is set for Oct. 14.

He has posted $100,000 bail.
