KHON2’s report about a rusty guardrail along Kalanianaole Highway sparked action from the state, and now the guardrail is back in good shape.
The deteriorating guardrail near Sandy Beach was crumbling. KHON2 put pressure on the Department of Transportation to address the issue, and they did.
The DOT scheduled emergency repair work earlier this week to change out about 300 feet of the guardrail.
They finished the job Thursday.
The new guardrail is coated with a product that will help prevent it from rusting.
