A new memorial honoring the sacrifices made by American service members was unveiled at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on Monday.
The memorial stone was donated by the Veterans Affairs Commission of Taiwan and pays tribute to those who fought to ensure the peace of the Asia-Pacific region.
“The wars that were fought in Asia, they fought for freedom. And those who have fought with us were fighting for freedom, too,” Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell said.
“A proud memory of a solemn promise renewed today as our nations looks together towards peace, prosperity, and a shared success in the Pacific,” Rep. Colleen Hanabusa said.
The memorial stone was placed along the cemetery’s memorial walk.
