A giant tree that was once full of leaves was vandalized and will be cut down on Friday.
The picture on the left is how the tree at Kipapa Neighborhood Park used to look like.
The picture on the right is how it looks like now. Its leaves are gone, and its bark is damaged.
The city says someone did this on purpose, and now the tree needs to be removed because it’s a danger to the public.
The tree is valued at $19,000.
The mayor says the cost to remove it diverts taxpayer money that would have gone to core services.
In the last six months, there have been at least nine reported acts of vandalism against city trees.
