The Honolulu Police Department is under fire after a lawsuit was filed by several of its officers.
Three officers claim they were discriminated against based on their race and gender.
They also claim after they complained they were retaliated against, and their lives were actually put in danger.
“One of the officers was severely injured in an altercation with a suspect when she wasn’t given back up. Other officers became aware that when they were requesting backup that it was intentionally being delayed or denied based on the orders from command that these officers not be supported,” defense attorney Victor Bakke said.
The lawsuit claims the discrimination goes all the way up the chain of command to the chief of police and even the corporation counsel attorneys.
