A 2-year-old boy was killed Wednesday morning after he was run over by an SUV.
Honolulu police investigated the deadly scene just off Kapiolani Boulevard. It happened at about 7:15 a.m.
The father-in-law of the woman at the wheel of the SUV described what happened.
“She back her car, and take her daughter to school. And when she reversed, she hit the boy from the other side,” driver’s father-in-law Chan Pham said.
“The vehicle was driven by a 37-year-old female, who was taking her daughter to school, who had backed up onto the street and started to pull a little bit onto the sidewalk, and I guess didn’t see the 2-year-old, and ran the 2-year-old over,” HPD Lt. Robert Towne said.
Neighbors KHON2 spoke with say the young child would often be outside without supervision.
“This very unfortunate that they let the children run in the street without adults, unattended I mean,” Pham said.
A family friend told KHON2 the 2-year-old boy had a brother and three sisters.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The case remains under investigation.
