The Waikiki skyline will soon be changing, again.
The Ritz-Carlton Residences broke ground Thursday for a new condominium property.
The 37-floor building just off Kuhio Avenue is scheduled to open in early 2016.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell says the Ritz-Carlton will be a look toward the future.
“How does Waikiki look new? How does Waikiki attract that next generation of travelers who’s looking for something that’s cool, that’s different, that’s better, that looks different? If Waikiki does not change and always look toward the future, our market share declines in this international market,” Mayor Caldwell said.
Nearly 90 percent of the 309 units have been sold with prices ranging from $500,000 to $15 million.
