Honolulu police are investigating an arson case in Palolo Valley.

The fire broke out on Palolo Avenue just before 3:30 a.m. Friday.

According to police, a man tried to crash a van into Rainbow Mart and then set the van on fire.

“We are going to initiate a property damage in the first degree,” Honolulu Police Department Lt. Carl Thorstad said. “The actual setting of the fires will be classified as an arson in the first degree.”

According to Honolulu Fire Department officials, by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, two vans in front of the store were on fire.

Authorities say heat from the fire shattered the glass door of the store.

Firefighters took just over 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.

Police have yet to make an arrest in the case.
