Kauai fire officials rescue injured hiker

Officials rescued a 33-year-old man visiting from Seattle, Washington after he was injured while hiking along the Hanakapiai trail.

They say around 5 p.m. Saturday rescuers were notified of a hiker with a possible broken ankle near Hanakapiai Falls.

The fire chopper located the man roughly a quarter-mile from the falls and landed in a nearby landing zone to get him.

Officials say the hiker was airlifted by helicopter to Lihue airport.

Emergency medical officials then transported the man to Wilcox Hospital.
