A Lihue woman was found unresponsive Wednesday afternoon in waters off Kalapaki Bay.
According to the Kauai Police Department, the victim was identified as 67-year-old Karen Lardizabal.
Police say a male bystander located the woman while swimming in the bay at around 6:30 p.m. The bystander, who happened to be a medical doctor, brought her to shore and immediately began performing CPR until medics arrived.
Lardizabal was transported to Wilcox Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
According to police, an autopsy was performed Thursday, but results are pending.
Volunteers with Life’s Bridges, a grief counseling service, is assisting the victim’s family.
