Some Moiliili residents are on edge after a brazen sex assault early Thursday morning.
The victim was a 70-year-old woman.
It happened inside the woman’s apartment. She was asleep when the attacker snuck inside her home.
Honolulu police say it happened at about 4 a.m. on University Avenue. The man entered through a screen door and attacked the elderly woman while she was sleeping on the sofa.
Police say she was home alone at the time.
The woman confronted the suspect and he ran off.
The suspect is believed to be in his 30s, about 5-foot-8-inches tall, and weighs 180 pounds. He was also wearing blue shorts and no shirt.
Area residents are alarmed that this would happen to an elderly woman in her own home.
“We hear of assaults happening out in the open, but not really when somebody broke into someone’s house like that,” Moiliili resident Raymond Takiue said.
“I don’t like to be home alone ’cause always people walking around at night,” Moiliili resident Becky Seiuli said.
Police are asking for the public’s help.
