Honolulu mayor hosting birthday celebration to honor Sen. Inouye

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell will host a birthday celebration in honor of Medal of Honor and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Senator Daniel K. Inouye this Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.

Sen. Inouye passed away on Dec. 17, 2012 after serving in Congress for 54 years. He would have been 89.

The mayors of all four counties will pay tribute at the event.

Speaking at the celebration are the Senator’s widow Irene Hirano Inouye and his former Chief of Staff Jennifer Goto Sabas.

A kukui nut tree will be dedicated in Senator Inouye’s honor and plaque will be unveiled on the Civic Center grounds.

The event is free and open to the public.

Prior to the event, the city is having a First Responders Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m..
