Rep. Gabbard undecided over military strike in Syria

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard says she will continue to gather information before committing to a position on a military strike in Syria.

Rep. Gabbard returned to Washington, D.C. earlier this week to participate in the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Syria.

“Even after that hearing, even after going through a number of classified briefings yesterday, there are still may unanswered questions that I have and areas that I have deep concern,” Rep. Gabbard said. “There has been some verbiage around. This is going to be a punch in the gut for Assad to send a strong message that the use of chemical weapons is unacceptable. When you punch someone in the gut, it is natural to assume that they will retaliate in some fashion.”

She expects there will be various versions of the resolution that may either broaden or narrow the parameters of allowing a military strike in Syria.

Like Rep. Gabbard, Sen. Mazie Hirono is undecided.

Earlier this week, Rep. Colleen Hanabusa and Sen. Brian Schatz both said they do not support a military strike in Syria.
