A motorcyclist is dead after an accident with a car on Kalanianaole Highway.
The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near the Lanai Lookout.
According to Honolulu police, a 2007 Harley-Davidson was traveling eastbound when it lost control, veered into the westbound lane, and crashed into a 2007 Toyota Camry.
The operator of the motorcycle, a 52-year-old man from Kapolei, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.
The driver of the Toyota, a 30-year-old woman from Waimanalo, was not injured.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Police say speed appears to be a possible factor.
This is the 44th traffic fatality on Oahu in 2013 compared to 44 at this time last year.
Kalanianaole Highway was closed in both directions between the Blow Hole and the Lanai Lookout while police investigated.
All lanes were reopened just before midnight.
