Vessel grounded outside of Ma’alaea harbor on Maui

Maui firefighters are assisting the U.S. Coast Guard with a grounded vessel outside the Ma’alaea Harbor early Tuesday morning.

The vessel left Ma’alaea Harbor around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday en route to Ko Olina, Oahu.

Fire officials say the Pacific Whale Foundation’s 64-foot Ocean Odyssey catamaran struck reef about a quarter-mile east of McGregor’s Point.

Fire crews were able to evacuate four crew members on board.

The captain of the Ocean Odyssey stayed with the vessel awaiting salvage operations.

No injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were released into the ocean.

The vessel left Ma’alaea Harbor around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday en route to Ko Olina, Oahu.

The vessel sustained damage to one of its hulls.
