Hundreds of students honor victims in 9/11 attacks

Remembrance services were held Wednesday for people who may not remember the 9/11 attacks.

More than 600 students from Hickam Elementary School marched in a parade around campus.

The day started with an assembly.

“We take the time to celebrate the great resiliency, the great spirit, and the great pride we have as a nation to carry forward, to never forget, to learn, and to always grow together in times of adversity,” said Col. David Kirkendall, Deputy Commander at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

“They talked about what happened 12 years ago and it brought tears to my eyes knowing that here we are 12 years later. And I have a 7-year-old who’s going to be honoring such an important day in our history,” parent Stephanie Dykes said.

The Radford High School Band and JROTC Color Guard also participated in the event.
