HPD officers raise money for Special Olympics Hawaii

Cop on Top Fundraiser

Honolulu cops are headed to the top.

Honolulu Police Department officers are spending the next two days on top of scaffolds at Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across Oahu.

It’s all part of the Cop on Top event, which raises money for Special Olympics Hawaii.

“Well, I’m trying to raise $15,000 for our Special Olympic athletes. It’s for athletes who have intellectual disabilities. And the money that we raise is going to help them compete in the year-round sports that we provide for them,” HPD officer Patricia Doronila said.

“We’d like to raise $200,000 to $220,000. That would be amazing if we could do that,” said Cindy Ujimori, Director of Volunteer & Corporate Relations for Special Olympics Hawaii.

This is the 12th annual Cop on Top fundraiser.

Over the years, officers have raised $2 million.

The funds are needed because it costs more than $1,400 per year to outfit and properly train an athlete.
