Honolulu firefighters were called to Pearl City Peninsula after a report of a body floating in the water Sunday afternoon.
A Honolulu Fire Department spokesperson says the body of a 60-year-old man was found about 20 feet from shore.
Witnesses saw him fishing from shore earlier in the day.
“He’s a local fisherman, usually with his wife, but I guess today he was on his own,” witness Jason Ito said. “I yelled for this man and this woman who was fishing there and they called for police.”
Police say there were no signs of foul play.
The Honolulu city medical examiner has not released the man’s identity.
They say his cause of death was due to drowning and have classified the case as an accident.
