Couple awakened by three intruders in Big Island home

Big Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying three men who entered a home in Puna Monday night while the residents were sleeping.

Police say they got a call from a 54-year-old woman who said while her and her 63-year-old husband were sleeping in their home on North Kulani Road, they were awakened by noises in another room.

When her husband went to check, he discovered three men, who ran out of the home when he confronted them.

Two of the men ran towards Ihope Road, while the other ran towards Route 11.

The woman and man were not injured and nothing was taken from their home.

Officers checked the nearby area and were not able to locate the three suspects.

Two of the suspects were described only as being about 5’6 to 5’7″ while the third suspect was described only as being about 5’9″ tall.

Big Island detectives are continuing their investigation, and have classified the case as an unauthorized entry into a dwelling in the first degree.
