Honolulu Police Department Capt. Andrew Lum answers this week’s question.

Do motorcyclists have to wear helmets?

Motorcyclists 18 and older are not required to wear helmets.  However, they have to wear eye protection if there is no windshield on the motorcycle.

Now for motorcyclists under the age of 18, they have to wear a helmet with a chin strap. For each safety equipment violation, someone can be fined $70.
