Big Island firefighters put out fuel truck fire


Big Island firefighters put out a fuel truck fire early Thursday morning.

The incident happened just after 3:30 a.m. on Highway 19 near Ookala.

According to officials, the truck was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Officials say the truck was pulling a tank with 8,300 gallons of diesel fuel when it caught on fire near the 32 mile marker on the highway.

The fire was under control in about an hour.

No injuries were reported.

The highway was closed while firefighters put out the fire. The area was reopened shortly after 7:30 a.m.

The case remains under investigation.
