Farrington students take pledge to not text and drive

Farrington Students - Don't Text While Driving Pledge

A hundred students at Farrington High School took a life-saving pledge Thursday.

They signed an “It Can Wait” pledge board to never text and drive.

The students are part of the school’s drivers education classes and will soon be hitting the roads themselves.

“My plea to you as new drivers is not to text. Not to text. It’s just plain dumb. It seems so easy, ‘Oh, I’ll just look down for a minute and text and look back up.’ In that brief instant, your life can change forever,” Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell said.

In the first seven months of the year, Honolulu police have already cited 8,114 drivers for driving while using an electronic in a vehicle.
