Hawaiian Telcom says some of its customers in the Kailua-Kona area were impacted by service disruptions starting at about 5 p.m. Sunday.
Hawaiian Telcom dispatched crews, who traced the source to a fiber break in a remote, off-the-road site in Waikoloa.
Since the roads are washed out and the area is not accessible by vehicles, Hawaiian Telcom crews had to walk in all repair equipment about half-a-mile. Crews began splicing early Monday morning.
As a result of the fiber break, Hawaiian Telcom phone and internet services were limited.
The impacted areas included Pahala, Naalehu, Ocean View, Honaunau, Keahou, Kaloao, Kealakekua and Waikoloa.
At about 10:45 a.m. Monday, Hawaiian Telcom crews completed repairs to the fiber. The company says all impacted services should have been restored starting at 8 a.m.
Customers who continue to experience service disruptions should contact Hawaiian Telcom’s 24-Hour Service Center at 611 or 643-6111.
