The HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union wants to inform customers of a security alert.
The credit union says several consumers have fallen victim to “account takeovers,” where the account holder is unaware that malicious software has been downloaded to his or her computer.
This gives criminals the ability to capture sensitive information and gain access to the consumer’s bank account and funds.
In most cases, funds have been stolen via wire transfers.
HawaiiUSA is advising customers to install anti-virus software and to open email only from trusted sources.
