OCCC inmate back in custody after escaping from work furlough program

An Oahu Community Correctional Center inmate who escaped from a work furlough program last week has been arrested.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Ernest Vierra escaped on Friday at about 8:20 a.m.

Authorities say after a head count was completed at the Laumaka Work Furlough Center, Vierra was reported missing.

Vierra was arrested in Kapolei and brought back to OCCC at about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

He was serving time for second-degree robbery and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.

Escape in the second degree will be added to Vierra’s charges.
