A comprehensive health report was presented to state lawmakers Tuesday.
The John A. Burns School of Medicine and its community partners looked at the health and well-being of Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders.
They found that those groups are living healthier lives.
“I think it’s not so much about doctors, it’s really about the people taking ownership of their own health. And what a huge piece that is on wellness,” said Dr. Marjorie Mau, JABSOM.
The report found that the life expectancy for Filipinos in Hawaii is just under 81 years — slightly better than the overall state average.
