Man charged in connection with Puna bicyclist fatality

The man arrested for a deadly collision with a bicyclist on the Big Island has been charged.

Siaku Aholelei, 27, of Mountain View faces charges of first-degree negligent homicide and first-degree manslaughter.

He’s accused of hitting 66-year-old Cenon Visaya with his truck while Visaya was riding a bike along Hawaii Belt Road in Keaau just before noon on Friday.

Aholelei is being held at Hilo cellblock in lieu of $275,000 bail.

He’s scheduled to be in court Monday morning.
