Snagged electrical wires cause power outage in Kalihi

A large explosion startled many workers in Kalihi Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Kalani Street near Lion Coffee.

According to Hawaiian Electric Company, a passing vehicle snagged some electrical lines, snapping the wires.

The accident caused a power outage in the area, affecting approximately 470 customers.

The WorkHawaii building on Dillingham Boulevard was closed for the day because of the outage.

Power was restored to most customers by 11:30 a.m.
